 Christmas is for Crafts

Hello, and thanks for stopping by Christmas Is For Crafts. We put this site up here to encourage people to get "crafty" for Christmas. You see, back when I was a kid, Christmas was the most amazing time of the year I can possibly remember. Not just because of the fact that I knew I was going to (if I was good of course) get a present or two on Christmas morning, but because of everything, and everyday leading up to December 25th, starting the day after Thanksgiving.

The Friday after Thanksgiving would usually mean two things. 1) My mom and my sister would head off to visit the department stores that my mom swore (exactly one year before) she would never go back to again during the DATGDS (day after Thanksgiving day sales), because there were just too many people. 2) My dad and I would haul out the Christmas lights, the store-bought decorations, and handmade decorations that my sister and I had made in previous years.

Later that afternoon, when my sister and mother would get home from shopping, my sister and I would stand in the midst of our previous endeavors and squabble over who had made what, what year it was made, and what book or magazine we got the idea from. It wasn't until a little later that we decided we should probably put dates on things, along with the initials of who actually made it, but for the time being the most important thing to do was get started on new holiday projects.

We made things at home to take to school, and we made things in school to bring home. It seemed like the entire month of December was a celebration, and as I look back on it all I realize it was. Now with the internet, everything you make can be shared with people all over the world. You can get a domain name for your family for under ten bucks a year and host it for one dollar a month, and that dollar includes a step by step "automatic website". And, if you were so inclined, you could sell your creations on ebay.

Make December a month-long celebration for yourself and your entire family. Get everyone in your family involved in making something that has to do with the holiday that is Christmas, and don't be selfish like my sister and I were. Pass it along. Make it then give it to someone who will enjoy the fact that you not only thought of them this holiday season, but you thought enough of them to put the time into crafting something yourself - by hand. My grandmother had a saying that I remember from my childhood... "Handmade is heart made". She passed away a few years ago, but not before leaving us with many heart made memories.

Happy Holidays

P. S. The trick is to start early. Get your ideas and your materials ready to go now, so you can give early and give often. Get the wreaths, the snowmen, the candles, and the angels done early so your family and friends can display them throughout the season.
